GTA 6 map regions: the six Leonida destinations in Rockstar's own words

Each of the six official destinations in Rockstar's wording, the extra place names from the edition pages, and a clear line between what Rockstar says and what the press infers about real-world models. Checked September 23, 2026.

The short answer

Rockstar's official Only in Leonida page names six destinations: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Each gets a heading, a one-paragraph description and a small gallery. Rockstar presents them as "a few of the must-see destinations across the sunshine state", so six is the number shown so far, not a promise that the map has six regions. The Ultimate Edition page adds more official place names, such as Watson Bay, Lake Leonida and Stockyard, without saying which region they belong to.

Rockstar never names Florida. The Florida comparisons you read online come from the press, not from Rockstar. Below, every region is described in Rockstar's own words, followed by what a named publication has said about its real-world model, where one has said anything at all. Everything was checked on September 23, 2026.

How Rockstar frames the state

Three official lines set the scale and tone. The main Grand Theft Auto VI page calls Vice City "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America" and describes a criminal conspiracy "stretching across the state of Leonida." The Ultimate Edition blurb calls Leonida "the state where anything goes" and "this massive world." A merchandise item on the same page gives the state an in-game nickname: Macca the Gator is described as "the Goodtime State's hit TV show character."

Rockstar also gives two directions: Mount Kalaga sits against "the state's northern border", and Ambrosia is "in the heart of Leonida." There are no other compass points, distances or borders on Rockstar's pages.

Vice City: "Everything in Excess"

Rockstar's line: "We're a long way from the '80s, but Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America." The description names four areas: the "pastel art deco hotels and bright white sands of Ocean Beach", "the bustling panaderías of Little Cuba", "the bootleg brands of the Tisha-Wocka flea market", and "the VC Port, the cruise ship capital of the world."

The edition pages name a few more Vice City places. Shore Drive is where the '55 Vapid Stanier cruises, and the Shore Court garage is "a stone's throw" from Ocean Beach. A pre-order mission raids a gang compound in "Southside Vice City." The Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers come "from the Vercetti Estate," and a weapon pattern is "inspired by Tommy Vercetti's iconic palm tree button-up", which is Rockstar's own nod to the 2002 Vice City.

Real-world model: PC Gamer's map guide describes Vice City as "inspired by real-life Miami proper." That is the magazine's reading. Rockstar's pages do not mention Miami.

Leonida Keys: "Gateway to Paradise"

Rockstar calls the Keys a "tropical archipelago" where life "isn't flashy but it's easy", and warns that you are "right on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America." The gallery captions describe an iguana crossing in front of a mobility scooter, and a seaplane flying past a bridge that connects two islands.

The Keys are also where two characters live. Jason ended up "in the Keys" working for local drug runners, and Brian Heder is "a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys."

Real-world model: PC Gamer compares the region to the Florida Keys, which it notes "sit just to the south of Miami and the Everglades." Rockstar has not published where the Keys sit on the map.

Grassrivers: "Welcome to the Wetlands"

Rockstar calls Grassrivers "the untamable jewel of Leonida's crown": a "primordial expanse" where "the gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves." One gallery caption shows a speedboat heading for buildings on piers with "the Vice City skyline" in the distance. That is the only official hint about the region's position, and it gives no distance.

Real-world model: PC Gamer puts Rockstar's wetlands next to "the real Everglades" when it describes the region. That is a comparison, and Rockstar has not made it.

Port Gellhorn: "Live Hard"

This is "Leonida's forgotten coast." Rockstar describes "cheap motels, shut-down attractions, and empty strip malls" in a "once-popular vacation spot" whose new economy runs on "malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks." The captions show a motel with a lit vacancy sign and two locals in a room full of grow lights.

Real-world model: none that we can source. No Rockstar page and no press source we checked ties Port Gellhorn to a specific real town. Named towns you see online come from fan mapping projects.

Ambrosia: the heart of Leonida

Ambrosia's line is "The battle for the health and wealth of Leonida begins here." Rockstar says "American industry and old school values still reign supreme" in this part of the state. It names one employer and one gang: "The Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs, while the local biker gang provides almost everything else." The captions show smokestacks on the night skyline and a biker gang in matching leather vests.

Real-world model: not stated by Rockstar or by the press sources we checked.

Mount Kalaga: "Wild, Wild Country"

Rockstar offers "room to breathe on the state's northern fringes." Mount Kalaga is "a national landmark up against the state's northern border" with "prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails", and the backwoods around it are home to "hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals." The captions call it Mount Kalaga National Park and show a news helicopter over a wooded ridge and dirt bikes in the mud. The Ultimate Edition's '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy is sold for "the backwoods of Mount Kalaga and beyond."

Real-world model: not stated by Rockstar or by the press sources we checked.

Official place names without a region

These names appear on Rockstar's pages, but Rockstar does not say which region they belong to. Don't assume one.

Place Where Rockstar mentions it
Watson Bay Home of the Paradise Garage (Ultimate Edition)
Lake Leonida Home of One-Eyed Willie's Mod Shop (Ultimate Edition)
Stockyard Stock 305 streetwear store and Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor (Ultimate Edition)

Washington Beach Where that Squalo is docked (Ultimate Edition)
Leonida Penitentiary Where Lucia served time (character profile)

What is not published

Rockstar has not released an official map, a map size, region borders, or a statement that the six destinations are the complete list. Map sizes, "X times GTA V" comparisons and full town lists all come from leaks or fan reconstructions. By this site's rules, none of them counts as confirmed. The broader confirmed-versus-unconfirmed ledger is on our page covering everything Rockstar has confirmed.
