The new official GTA VI presentation in one minute
Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026. The 27-minute presentation is the longest official look at the game so far. Rockstar says it was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, and it combines playable sequences with cinematic scenes across Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.
The release plan did not change with the new footage. GTA VI is still due on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar did not announce a PC version, system requirements, resolution targets or frame-rate modes. “Captured on PS5” identifies the hardware used for this presentation; it does not establish how the Xbox versions will perform or prove a difference between the consoles. Our GTA 6 platform guide keeps those confirmed and unconfirmed points separate.
Jason and Lucia share more than the story
The Extended Look gives the clearest example yet of how the two protagonists can operate as a pair. Rockstar’s developers told Dazed that players may control Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos together or let them act independently. During a shared drive, Jason can be at the wheel while Lucia uses the in-game phone from the passenger seat. When the trip turns into a police chase, the player can move between driving and firing at pursuers through the side window.
That is a specific gameplay example, not confirmation that both characters will be freely interchangeable in every mission. Rockstar has not published a complete control scheme or explained the limits of switching. What is confirmed is more useful than that speculation: a joint sequence can divide driving, observation, phone use and combat between the two leads without treating one of them as a passive companion.
The phone has working social feeds. Posts and livestreams appear inside the world, connecting local characters and events to GTA’s satire of 2020s culture. The presentation does not identify this as a multiplayer feature or a real external social network. It is an in-game system shown as part of the single-player world.
Their relationship also has a mechanical edge. Rockstar narrative lead Rupert Humphries described GTA VI as a “Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative,” while development head Rob Nelson said the protagonists are not empty avatars. Dazed reports that player choices can carry consequences for Jason and Lucia’s relationship. Rockstar has not announced a relationship meter, branching ending count or romance menu, so none should be inferred. For the confirmed biographies and connections, see our guide to Jason, Lucia and the official cast.
Food, exercise and exhaustion leave visible marks
GTA VI expands the character-state systems seen in earlier Rockstar games. According to the developers interviewed by Dazed, food changes Jason and Lucia’s weight, while exercise visibly builds and tones muscle. A long spell away from bed, time spent evading police or a multi-day binge can also alter their faces and bodies.
These are reactive character systems, not just a larger clothing menu. The Extended Look includes scenes of eating and working out, while the interview establishes that habits have persistent visible effects. Rockstar has not said how quickly weight changes, which activities count as exercise, or whether exhaustion affects aiming, stamina or other statistics. The supported claim is narrower: the protagonists’ appearance responds to how they live.
Clothes, hair and other appearance choices remain another layer of customization. The developer comments frame those choices as self-expression without erasing the characters’ established identities. That distinction matters. Jason and Lucia have written histories and a defined relationship, even while the player changes how they look and behaves between story beats.
The presentation moves beyond Vice City streets. It shows airboats in wetlands, kayaks on rivers, scuba diving, Jet Skis and other boats. Jason and Lucia ride together on a Jet Ski as dolphins move through the water nearby. A separate interaction answers a smaller but very concrete question: a dog can be petted.
Police chases show the two-character setup in motion. Shooting a tire changes a pursuing car’s path and can send it into a crash. In another scene, a police officer is driven through a wall. Those shots show local reactions and environmental damage, but they do not confirm that every building or object in Leonida is destructible. Rockstar has not announced a universal destruction system.
Crowds appear more varied and responsive than in earlier footage. The firmer evidence comes from Rockstar’s developers: Dazed describes a world designed to respond more realistically to conspicuous player behavior, using the example of openly carrying a rifle down a street. The interview does not define a complete witness, memory or wanted system. It would be premature to claim that every pedestrian can report crimes or remember the player.
The environments shown belong to the official Leonida setting, which currently names Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Rockstar introduced those as a selection of destinations, not a complete map index. Our official GTA 6 map and location guide tracks the named places without filling the gaps with fan maps.
The production details explain where the work went
Rockstar has not given a square-mile count, a mission total or a promised campaign length. It has disclosed several more useful production facts. The team has more than doubled in size since Red Dead Redemption 2, according to the Dazed interviews. One Los Angeles branch works almost entirely on the game’s pedestrian population.
More than 50 real street artists contributed mural designs for areas including Vice City’s Stockyard. Race-car drivers work with the vehicle-handling team. Rockstar also maintains a research presence in Miami, and groups from the studio have visited the city and surrounding region throughout the past decade.
None of those details proves that the map is larger or the finished game is better. They identify the intended sources of detail: a more varied population, place-specific artwork, handling informed by drivers, and environments built from sustained local research. That is evidence. Unofficial budget figures and reconstructed map sizes are not.
What is still missing after 27 minutes
The Extended Look answers real gameplay questions, but it leaves PC timing, console modes, online features and the full map undisclosed. The safest next step is to keep the new footage beside the current product information rather than treating every visible scene as a platform-wide promise.
