The short answer
GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and nothing else. You can pre-order it now in two editions, Standard and Ultimate. PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store sell the download directly, and Rockstar Store and other retailers sell a box that contains a download code. In every Xbox Store we checked on September 19, 2026, Ultimate costs exactly as much as Standard plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade, so on Xbox deciding late costs nothing. If you already own a PS5 or an Xbox Series console, that console is enough.
Where you can pre-order
Rockstar opened pre-orders at midnight local time on June 25, 2026. Its Newswire announcement names two formats, a digital version and a physical version "containing a download code inside the box". In practice there are four places to buy:
- PlayStation Store (PS5). PlayStation's product page sells Standard and Ultimate. Both list the Vintage Vice City Pack, one month of GTA+ and a 7-day pre-load.
- Xbox Store (Xbox Series X|S). Sells Standard, Ultimate and the Ultimate Edition Upgrade as a separate add-on.
- Rockstar Store. Sells the physical code-in-box version. Its FAQ lists shipping to Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
- Other retailers. Check the exact product: platform, edition, and which country's account the code is meant for.
What it costs, store by store
We read these list prices on the official store pages on September 19, 2026, at about 14:30 UTC. Every figure is a separate price set for that store and that country. None of them is a currency conversion.

On the Xbox pages the plus sign after a price points to the same page's "+Offers in-app purchases" notice. It is not a surcharge. The price that counts is the one your own account's checkout shows, because tax, promotions and regional availability are applied there. If you are outside these four markets, open your own regional listing. Another country's price does not tell you yours.
Standard or Ultimate: the arithmetic
On the Xbox Store the upgrade closes the gap to the cent: $79.99 + $20.00 = $99.99 in the US, £69.99 + £20.00 = £89.99 in the UK, 31,990 + 8,000 = 39,990 HUF in Hungary and 349 + 80 = 429 zł in Poland. At today's prices, buying Standard and upgrading later costs the same as buying Ultimate now.
PlayStation lists the same upgrade as an add-on, but on September 19 it was marked unavailable to pre-order, and no standalone price was shown. Rockstar Store says owners can "upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on PlayStation Store at any time". Until that add-on has a price, the equal-cost rule is only confirmed on Xbox.
Rockstar Store lists what Ultimate adds, including the '95 Grotti Cheetah, the Hawk and Little Morgan revolvers, the Rideout Customs Mod Shop and a Classic Car Collection. If none of that appeals to you, Standard is the rational pre-order. For the complete item list, see Standard vs Ultimate Edition.
Pre-order bonuses and the fine print
Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar's Newswire says all pre-orders and purchases before November 20 get it, so it comes with the box as well as the download. Rockstar Store lists the '55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. The Xbox listing words the deadline as a purchase before 19 November 2026, 23:59:59, without a time zone.
One month of GTA+. This is digital only. Rockstar Store labels it a "Digital Store Pre-Order Bonus". The conditions differ by platform:
- PlayStation. Claim it on the GTA+ product page by March 31, 2027. PlayStation's FAQ says the on-screen instructions show the date the free month "will continue into a paid monthly subscription". To stop that, cancel in Subscriptions Management before the next payment date. It can be claimed once per account, and existing subscribers get the month added.
- Xbox. Redeem it under Offers & credits within 180 days of the pre-order. The limit is one per platform account, and the offer is not available to child accounts restricted from age-restricted content.
If you don't want a subscription, put the cancellation date in your calendar the day you claim the month. What GTA+ includes is covered in GTA Online and GTA+ around the GTA 6 launch.
Digital or boxed
The box does not contain a disc. Rockstar Store says physical versions "will only contain a download code inside the box to support pre-load on November 12". Shipping starts on November 12. After launch, Rockstar estimates that physical orders ship within 1 to 7 days, depending on the shipping option. Digital pre-orders can also start pre-loading on November 12, so the box does not get you in earlier.
The box also has two drawbacks. The GTA+ month belongs to digital store pre-orders, and PlayStation codes are region-locked. Rockstar Store's FAQ says a code shipped to the US or Canada works only on a PlayStation account registered there. A UK code works only on a UK account. Codes shipped elsewhere work only on accounts in a listed set of European countries. You need an internet connection and a platform account to download either way. Details are in GTA 6 physical edition: a code in the box, no disc.
Which console to play it on
Supported models. PlayStation's FAQ says the game is released for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro and "will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles", so PS4 is out. The Xbox listing names only Xbox Series X|S as the platform, so Xbox One is out. Rockstar's GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and no PC version. The PC situation is tracked in GTA 6 PC system requirements and release date.
PS5 Pro Enhanced. PlayStation's product page carries the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label. PlayStation's own PS5 Pro page explains that developers can add features such as higher frame rates, PSSR upscaling and ray tracing, and that "PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game". The label confirms that Rockstar made a Pro-specific enhancement. It does not say which one, and it does not promise 60 fps.
Series X or Series S. Xbox marks the game "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" and publishes no per-model differences.
Performance. As of September 19, 2026, Rockstar has not published resolution targets, frame-rate modes or a comparison between consoles. Any fps figure you see for a specific model is not from Rockstar.
This gives three decision rules:
- You already own a PS5 or an Xbox Series console. Buy it there. PlayStation says the game plays on the PS5 set as your primary console, and on any other PS5 when you sign in with the same account. Your purchases, friends and saves stay where they already are.
- You're buying a console for this game. The game costs the same on PlayStation and Xbox in every region above, so the game price won't separate them. Compare console prices, where your friends play, and storage. Pay extra for a PS5 Pro only once Rockstar or independent launch testing shows what the enhancement does.
- You're waiting for PC. No PC date or requirements have been announced, and nothing Rockstar has published says a console purchase would carry over to a PC version.
Before you pay
Check these five things on the page you are about to buy from:
- The platform matches your console: PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- You picked the edition on purpose. On Xbox the Upgrade costs the same later.
- The price is your own region's checkout price, with the date you saw it.
- Digital or boxed. A box means a code, no GTA+ month and, on PlayStation, a region-locked code.
- How to cancel. Each store has its own rules, compared in GTA 6 pre-order cancellation and refunds, store by store.
Next: compare the editions line by line
The price table only makes sense against what each edition contains. Open GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate Edition: every difference, then check the same line on your own regional store page before you pay. To plan the download, see GTA 6 file size and pre-load.
